Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou has promised a quick decision on his future as national team boss.

Postecoglou became the first Australian to guide the Socceroos to a World Cup with a 3-1 win over Honduras on Wednesday night but didn’t end speculation over his tenure after the match.

“Right now it’s about enjoying the moment,” he said.

“It won’t take too long.

“I’ll sit down with the powers that be.

“What happens beyond here can be picked up tomorrow and we can decide then.”

A bombastic report in the wake of Australia’s 1-1 draw with Syria last month suggested Postecoglou would walk from the job if they were successful in reaching Russia.

At ANZ Stadium, Postecoglou left wiggle room to stay in the role.

He suggested he needed a period of reflection with loved ones after wearing grievances that he didn’t name.

“I owe it myself and particularly my family, my wife, my boys, my friends (to consider his future),” he said.

“While I’ve got a thick skin, they’ve got to cop what I’ve been copping and it’s unfair on them.

“Tonight is about enjoying it and hopefully seeing their smiling faces.”
