A bottom-placed Brisbane Roar host the magnificent Melbourne City, the Roar looking for their first win of the 2017-18 A-League season, City looking to go top of the table. Join The Roar for a live blog of the match at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night, starting from 7:50pm AEDT.

These two teams’ fortunes could hardly be further apart so far in this season, and their results so far go wildly against the histories of the respective clubs.

The Brisbane Roar, a team that has its fair share of silverware in the closet from days gone by, now find themselves in a very low place indeed – dead last on the A-League table, without a win to their name.

They opened the season with three consecutive losses, the first of them, in fact, coming against Melbourne City, albeit at AAMI Park instead of here in Brisbane, before also copping beatings from Adelaide United and the Newcastle Jets.

Things have improved a little lately – they’ve drawn with all of Wellington, Central Coast and Melbourne Victory in the past three weeks – but they’re still searching for that breakthrough victory.

City, on the other hand, can boast four consecutive wins to start the season – against Brisbane, Victory, Wellington and Adelaide United – but their past fortnight has seen them cop an 0-1 loss against Sydney FC, and a draw with the Wanderers.

That leaves City second on the table at the moment, just one point behind the Newcastle Jets, and the if they can continue to display good form then the club – often a struggler in the history books of the A-League – might finally be ready for serious success.
