The 2017 AFL Draft is quickly approaching, as it begins on Friday, November 24 at 6:30pm AEDT. The event will be held at the Sydney Showground Exhibition Centre.

There will be eight rounds on Friday, with 96 picks in total. The first ten picks look like this (in order): Brisbane Lions, Fremantle, Carlton, North Melbourne, Fremantle, Collingwood, St Kilda, St Kilda, Western Bulldogs, Carlton.

At the moment, Brisbane allegedly has not yet decided who they will take with the first pick and have a shortlist of four players.

Cam Rayner looks to be the favourite, but Andrew Brayshaw, Luke Davies-Uniacke and Paddy Dow are all possibilities at the top of the draft.

Rayner has been the top player in most people’s minds for most of the year now. After a great campaign, it will be a bit surprising if the Lions don’t select the explosive playmaker with their pick.

Andrew Brayshaw is an experienced reliable player in the midfield. Davies-Uniacke finished the season strong, and more than a few people are convinced that he is the best player in the draft.

Dow is on the outside looking in after an injury ended his year early, but had played plenty of excellent football before that.

The NAB AFL Pre-season and Rookie Drafts will be held from 5pm AEDT on Monday, November 27. Both of these are held at the same time.

The pre-season draft is for the drafting any uncontracted players but has not seen many selections take place over the past five seasons.

The Rookie Draft allows teams to recruit players for their rookie lists. The rookies are outside the 38-player primary list but can be elevated in the event of an injury or retirement on the senior squad.

Following the draft, clubs will need to submit their final lists for the 2018 season by Wednesday, November 29.
