Popovic reportedly sacked by Turkish club after just two-and-a-half months

By News / Wire

Tony Popovic has reportedly been sacked by Turkish club Karabukspor two-and-a-half months after leaving Western Sydney to take up the role.

The Australian departed after Karabukspor were eliminated from the Turkish Cup in the fifth round on Thursday, according to local media.

The club sits last in the Turkish Super Lig with two wins from 15 matches, losing their last seven matches.

Popovic was their eighth coach in three years.

His tenure was considered shaky after Karabukspor’s entire board of directors resigned en masse in early November.

Popovic’s assistants Zeljko Kalac and Andres Carrasco also quit the Wanderers at the start of the A-League season to follow the former Socceroo to Europe.

Hell of a gamble by Poppa, and could be an expensive one if he doesn’t get his money. I don’t see him as NT material and I don’t think the FFA do either, it’s Arnie or a foreign coach there. I really don’t see him coming back to the HAL either, but would he go to SFC or Victory if a position opened up??? He might I guess ..

Not sure what Popovic was thinking on this one. For one so meticulous you'd think he would have seen this as the norm rather than the exception

Why go to a club that previously had seven coaches in three years? Not a good recent history of job security..
