Behind the barriers: Five bets for Kembla Grange/Sandown (31 January)

By Adam Page / Roar Guru

The Wednesday features pretty solid racing right across Australia, with Kembla Grange and Sandown being the central focus.

Here are the five bets across all meetings.

Bet 1: win – Kembla Grange Race 7, number four: Great Job
I’m pretty confident this bloke can continue the picket fence. He’s been very well placed by Tracey Bartley and he is getting just rewards. He had to dig deep last time out at Tamworth but still got the job done with the big weight in a race which did look strong on paper. It’s a tricky situation map-wise, but he’s the best horse in the race.

Bet 2: win – Sandown Race 2, number two: Won Ball
He looks the good thing on the Sandown card. He’s a very talented three-year-old for the Darren Weir camp that debuted with a dynamic, all-the-way win at Geelong, and the turn of foot he produced when asked was that of a blacktype horse. He can put this field away and then measure up, if placed right, during the Carnival.

Bet 3: win – Sandown Race 3, number eight: Holy Blade
He’s the talented son of I Am Invincible for Darren Weir. He was well-backed when resuming over 1000 metres at Ballarat, where he was set an impossible task from the back yet still wound up with real purpose to run a narrow third to Straviera, beaten by around a neck. He has run a couple of rippers on the Hillside before and Lane is on now. Keen.

Bet 4: win – Terang Race 6, number ten: Desidero
Looks a race in two between it and Foxanne. I’m just siding with this Colin Scott runner. The son of Magnus, he ran over the mile at Ballarat in his previous start and did a very good job in defeat, running a narrow second to the talented Seul Spirit in a close finish. He’s racing as if the 1850 metres will suit, and Thornton is riding in fab form at the moment.

Bet 5: win – Ipswich Race 7, number three: Runway Ready
I doubt we’ll get black figures, but he’s a multi-anchor. He had an outstanding win last time out in the Highway at Randwick when ridden an absolute treat by Tye Angland, beating the boom three-year-old Awesome Pluck. The win prior came here, where he absolutely walked in under Jeff Lloyd. With normal luck, even a dash of bad luck, he’ll still win.

Pretty underwhelming meetings this Saturday, but love a challenge Caufield r 9 possibly 15 runners and plenty of chances. Plus nice speed here. Rock for the Ladies: 3rd up now plus up to 1400 suits, drops back from bm 90, generally an honest horse, that looks for ok run here. $5.50 rating. Malaise: is in super form, first run at The Heath is a concern from wide barrier. Up 3kgs. Still in mix. But had this race been at Flemington, I’d be rating him much shorter. $10 rating Leodoro: May run. (Nom Sale Sunday) is fit, clear run from back makes him a chance. $13 rating This kid Rocks: has hit form now, looks to roll along near front. May prove hard to get past. $8 rating Kings Command. Had 41 week break. Has taken a while to get fit but should be cherry now, drawn to give this race a mighty shake. $7 rating Chippenham has won midweek, longshot chance for mine. $22 rating Trogor: looks for good run here, slight dist Doubt. But racing forward helps chance. $10 rating Call me Handsome. Rises class, but looks for upside. Should settle back. Might need a lot of things to go his way, especially at Caufield 1400. $13 rating Manolo Blahniq. The horse is quickly putting Tom Melbourne in the shadows. Had hard time of it down centre of straight at Flemington last start. At present this runner is around 6 or $7 on fixed. If it doesn’t start closer to $10, I’ll give up the punt for 3 days. It’s a ridiculous price at present for mine. Fit, dist May help $13 rating Good luck punters

Great punting track Sandown probly the best of Melbourne’s four IMHO. R7 1600 Bm 70 looks a great betting race with likely good pace. Jest for the road is a slight dist query, but likely good run here give him a chance $8 rating Downhearted should lead here, has the potential to steal this, but is not bullet proof at distance. $6.50 rating Krusty: Comes in through good formlines here, hard fit to windup hard here. $4.50 rating Spaulding Cove: flukers chance, but out to right distance, plus should race handier here. Had quite a few Try’s lately,, trainer must have some faith left. $22 rating Devilishly: Another that is a distance concern, but very fit, and should race forward. $12 rating Gold Artisan : had very slight freshn. Dist is no problem here, been up a while. Plus often finds one better. Last run was in a very slow race early, so had little help getting into race. $12 rating Good luck punters
