Kashima Antlers vs Sydney FC: Asian Champions League live scores, blog

The Kashima Antlers and Sydney FC meet in the return Asian Champions League clash as the group starts to take shape ahead of the final stages. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 9pm (AEDT).

This is pretty much it for Sydney. Anything less than three points tonight ends their ACL aspirations and even then, a win might still leave them short on points at the end of the home-and-away group stage.

Graham Arnold’s men have been disappointing in this competition so far and despite the undoubted quality of the opposition they have faced, Australia had hoped for more.

The Antlers who were solid last time around and clinically put two goals past the normally stoic Sydney defence, will look to be more aggressive at home as they seek to consolidate a spot at the top of the group and secure a place in the next round.

Sydney might be on a face-saving mission tonight, although stranger things have happened and their leaders will need to step up to produce a performance that brings home a much needed three points.

Even with key personnel back for the Sky Blues, it’s hard to see the visitors creating enough avenues to goal to consistently trouble Kashima.

Sydney look tired and below strength and the Japanese will put at least another two past their defences.

    Kashima Antlers 2 – Sydney FC 0.

It was very good result for Sydney considering the team they put out.
Wilkshire and Wilkinson were nonexistent in defence as usual.
For these two to be covered for they need a fresh Brilliante and ONeill plus Zullo working their butts off.
Only one of the three was out there the opposition had pretty free reign.
At least Carney was not out there then Sydney would have needed a miracle just to get a draw.
Merjevski,Brosque and Simon were the pick of the players.

It finishes 1-1 with the blogger seeing very little of the game thanks to the most disastrous ADSL connection. So sorry everyone, I will be apologising to the roar team tomorrow and hope they forgive the abomination that this blog has been, So sorry.

Stuart, your blogging efforts have been heroic and I’m sure all appreciate the time and effort you put in. One bad internet connection doesn’t diminish your efforts to date. Cheer up and grab another ginger beer or two 🙂

Damn. 1-1 draw not good for SFC.

Improved showing but defensive errors have cost us again and pretty close to zero chance to progress any now.

Well done Matt Simon. Earnt another yellow card, scored the equaliser and almost a second for the winner at the death.

Australia 2 Japan 1 on the night.

But SFC out and Victory some chance to progress if results go their way.

So embarrassed and ashamed. Sorry guys but my streaming of the game has fallen ten minutes behind. As far as I can tell, it is a one-one draw.

You do a fantastic job. One typically Australian internet problem or one poor blog doesn’t diminish that! Chin up, Stuart.
