Team list Tuesday live blog: Round 2 – all 16 teams named

49 Have your say

There is one round full of upsets and surprises in the books, so team list announcements for Round 2 of the 2018 NRL season could bring with them plenty of changes. Join The Roar for live updates and coverage of all the news and teams from 3:30pm (AEDT).

It was a tipster’s nightmare on the first weekend of the season with plenty of favourites being beaten. The Sydney Roosters, Canberra Raiders, Parramatta Eels and Manly Sea Eagles all went down, but there was plenty of excellent footy on display.

Round 2 kicks off in the Shire, with the Sharks hosting the Dragons in a local derby. There has been plenty of talk since the Sharks’ defeat last Friday that fullback Valentine Holmes will be moved to the wing, with either Matt Moylan or Josh Dugan to play at the back.

Coach Shane Flanagan is unlikely to make the change this early in the season, but it’s one of the key points to watch this week after Holmes’ sub-standard performance.

The Roosters will play the Bulldogs in another grudge match on Friday and neither coach would have been happy with their first-up loss. The Broncos will then play the Cowboys, with Brisbane needing to swing at least one change to replace the suspended Jayden Su’A.

Stephen Kearney’s Warriors were one of the surprise winners in Round 1 and will look to build on that when they face the Titans. The Panthers are another club looking to build on a victory when they face the South Sydney Rabbitohs, who are set to be without Adam Reynolds due to a knee injury. His replacement is likely to be Adam Doueihi.

The Storm will host the Wests Tigers in the final Saturday game with the returns of both Melbourne fullback Billy Slater and Tigers half Josh Reynolds likely.

Manly face the Eels in a local derby on Sunday, before the round finishes in Canberra as the Raiders look to turn around a sloppy start against the new-look Knights.

I always thought Brad Parker should be in the Eagles team. He hits the gap and has his sights set on the try line where as Wright looks like he is taking a hit up out wide. Finally Lewis Brown is declared surplus to requirements. No doubting his efforts but he just isn’t a first grader any more and hasn’t been for a while.

This is a better looking team for round 2.

Changes for the Sea Eagles here. Matthew Wright has been dropped to the extended reserves after a poor showing against Newcastle, replaced by Brad Parker. Jackson Hastings also plays from the bench in favour of Lewis Brown, while Frank Winterstein is continuing to bide his time in the extended reserves list.
