Preview:

Adelaide United go into the contest as slight favourites but will be aware that anything but a win for them could jeopardise there top six position with both Brisbane Roar and Perth Glory closing the gap.

The two previous meetings between Adelaide and City have ended in two wins for City with the last outing seeing City run riot 5-0 in Melbourne.

Adelaide have been unable to score in both previous games against City this year and will be keen to snap this unwanted run.

City similarly have lost their last two encounters and will be looking towards star striker Bruno Fornaroli to continue to build on his last outing against Melbourne Victory in the derby.

Marcin Budzinski and Dario Vidosic will also be looking to repeat their standout performances from the previous encounter against Adelaide where both players got on the scoresheet.

Adelaide German midfielder Daniel Adlung though believes the almost two-week break which they have had to prepare for this game because of the split round has Adelaide perfectly poised to snap their three-game winless run.

Friday’s clash could also see a milestone reached with Adelaide youngster Jordan Elsey making his 50th A-League appearance if he is included in the matchday squad to face City.

Prediction:

Melbourne City have won the previous two encounters between these teams but the extended break for Adelaide could prove crucial as we near the finals series.

Adelaide to win 2-1
