Group l racing returns to Rosehill on Saturday for the Coolmore Classic (1500m), which highlights a fabulous nine-race card there, while at Flemington the Blamey Stakes (1600m) is the feature.

Here are my five suggested plays across the meetings.

Bet one – Win – Rosehill Race Four Number 1 Written By
I think the $2.50 all in will look outstanding post-race because really, all he has to do is be anywhere near his best to be winning. He was supposed to trial on Tuesday but with that washed out, he’ll trial for prizemoney.

His Blue Diamond win was outstanding, sitting on speed and then dashing right away late. Yes, I don’t think on the day he beat much, but you could say the same about several leading Slipper chances. Done most of his trackwork the Sydney way so first race clockwise won’t be an excuse. Keen on him.

Bet two – Each-Way – Rosehill Race Six Number 6 Octabello
I can’t believe the price of this horse. Mick Price trains this colt, who had a solid Spring Carnival but really had no luck for the most part. He resumes here with two jumps out and a trial under the belt, whereas last prep he had one jump out and one trial, so that tells me he’s wound up to win first up.

Looks a definite each way play at around $41.

Bet three – Boxed Exacta – Rosehill Race Seven Numbers 1/2/7
I think if you take the boxed exacta of Dixie Blossoms, Silent Sedition and Egg Tart, you’ll go very close to collecting. Dixie Blossoms finds the perfect assignment to break her Group l duck, Silent Sedition looks a different/better horse with the blinkers on, and Egg Tart was outstanding fresh against the boys.

The worry with Egg Tart is that the track might dry out.

Bet four – Win – Flemington Race Three Number 5 Demerara
Pretty confident she can remain unbeaten this prep. James Cummings trains this filly, who could have resumed in the Typhoon Tracy at the Valley but they instead took the softer option on the night and despite not appearing entirely happy around the circuit, she was far too classy for them.

Form out of the Typhoon Tracy has held up okay, as did the form behind Demerara, so it’ll be interesting to see how the race Demerara saluted in measures up.

Bet five – Win – Flemington Race Five Number 2 Humidor
I’m surprised he isn’t fav to be honest. High class animal for Darren Weir who resumed in the Futurity and I thought he was one of the best runs of the beaten brigade when fourth to stablemate Brave Smash, with condition just giving way the final 100m.

He’ll eat up the Flemington mile and is just the best horse in the race.
