The Brumbies started off their 2018 season with a win over the Sunwolves but it was by no means a convincing one – a first-up road win on the board was a handy thing to have, all the same.

However their reign as the best team in Australia is on the brink of being well and truly over after their performances in the past two weeks have seen them fall to both the Reds and the Rebels, teams who found themselves near the bottom of the table last year.

Granted both of these teams have improved since 2018 but the Brumbies would still be very disappointed after regularly topping the Australian conference in recent years that they have had such a poor start to the season against their countrymen.

The Sharks haven’t had an ultra-convincing start to the year either and will be hoping that last week’s dominant win over the Sunwovles is the start of something good.

They opened their year with a tight loss to the Lions which was by no means a poor result, but then followed that up with a draw against the Waratahs at home, and would’ve been seriously disappointed not to get the win on the board in that match.

Last week’s encounter with the Sunwolves was pretty one-sided – a 50-22 victory in favour of the Sharks.
