Adelaide just simply have to win and they will face the Western Bulldogs in the Grand Final. It could be no simpler than that. The Greater Western Sydney Giants losing on Friday night has really opened this opportunity up for the Crows.
If they cannot defeat the Pies, then the Brisbane Lions will play off in the Grand Final instead against the Dogs.
They key for the Crows is no doubt Erin Phillips. When she plays well, the team tends to as well. In such a big game, the Crows need her leading from the front, and if the past is to go by, expect her to do so.
But, the Crows have struggled in times when she hasn’t got going, which is a concern. They can sometimes be a bit of a one-woman team. In a game like this, they need an even spread of contributors.
What will also help Adelaide is the fact they have played in high pressured games before. They have the experience of winning a premiership, and that should never be discounted. They understand how to deal with situations perhaps others would crumble in.
As for the Pies, this is a dead rubber as they are completely out of Grand Final contention. Still, the motivation may still be there to try and stop the Crows from making the big dance, so one may expect to see some fight from the girls in black and white.
Going forward, there’s no denying Collingwood have to improve on this season. They have looked off the pace for the duration of this seasons competition, so improvement will be needed going into the future.
Prediction
The Adelaide Crows are a better outfit and they have all the motivation going into this game, so expect to see the Crows playing with some fire in the belly.
