Which Newcastle players underperformed in Adelaide’s 5-2 victory over them, and which Adelaide players assisted Adelaide to end their losing streak? Read on to find out.

Adelaide
Paul Izzo. 5.5

Was beaten in the free kick which hit the crossbar, and could have done a bit more for the two goals. Otherwise had little to do but still did his job.

Michael Marrone 7
Was fantastic. Got back to help the defence, and furthermore went forward well. Crosses were inviting and assisted Johan Absalonsen.

Jordan Elsey 6
His defence, with Taylor Regan wasn’t exactly solid, especially in the nervy stages. Didn’t really hear his name for the whole match. However, wasn’t really at fault for any of the goals.

Taylor Regan 5.5
Gave away free kicks in some really dangerous positions. Wasn’t what the doctor ordered. Also could have done more about the goals though, yet cleared the ball in the few moments of danger.

Benjamin Garuccio 6.5
Combined really well with Absalonsen down the left. Created lots of chances. But should have done better with the free kick which was in the ‘D’ and he put it well over the bar. Also, could have easily stopped a goal from occurring, but by the time he cleared it, the ball had already crossed the line.

Nathan Kostandopoulous 6.5
Was very lively but could have done better with his opportunities. Took a major part in the fifth goal.

Isaias 7
Lovely through ball lead to the first goal and the captain got the bloodbath started. Did not get involved in much else other than that.

Daniel Adlung 9
Scored a brace before half time and also made the majority of his passes. Another one of the players who started the riot.

Nikola Mileusnic 6.5
Was a constant menace to his opposing full back which resulted in some fouling from him. He was lucky to still be on the pitch. Could have distributed a little better but was unlucky to be departed after half time.

Dzengis Cavusevic 9.5
One goal, one assist, 13 duels contested with over 50 per cent success rate. He’s been busy, taking five shots on goal and his distribution was good as well. However, his shooting could have been a little more accurate.

Johan Absalonsen 10
A magnificent volley to put the Reds up 4-1 and rounded off his perfect night really. Gave Hoffman his fair share of work to do and his distribution was magnificent. Perfect night for the Dane. New Dane, new result, new team, new quality.

Subs
Ryan Kitto 9

Was so effective when he made his way on the pitch I feel sorry for the full back! Burst through the middle to restore Adelaide’s two goal cushion before assisting one for his Slovenian teammate.

Tarek Elrich 6
Had a shot and tried to curl one into the top corner but it just ended in the stands. Didn’t contribute in too much else.

Vince Lia 5
Did not make an impact, but the game was already won.

Newcastle Jets
Jack Duncan 3.5

Should have done better with the second goal, it wasn’t that fast and he didn’t move a muscle. Reflexes need to be better for a goalkeeper. Shipped three more goals, and he might have got megged by Ryan Kitto.

Jason Hoffman 4
His one hundredth game for Newcastle Jets could have been his worst. Was sent off and couldn’t contain Ben Garuccio and Johan Absalonsen on his side. But did make an important interference to deny a second Adelaide goal.

Nikolai Topor-Stanley 6.5
Was the only member of the back four who did his job well. Interfered with play to deny other Adelaide goals and assisted the first goal for Newcastle. Could have done better to track the run of Kitto though.

Lachlan Jackson 3
Terrible. His performance was so bad that Boogaard needs to be in the central defence for Newcastle to at least have a chance to be minor premiers.

Gave away fouls in dangerous positions, butchered the Jets’ first shot on goal and his defensive positioning was poor.

Daniel Georgievski 4.5
Didn’t go forward at all and was second best against Nikola Mileusnic and Ryan Kitto.

Stefan Ugarkovic 4
Gave the ball away in midfield and conceded free kicks. His mistakes resulted into two Adelaide goals. Was substituted after 60 minutes.

Ben Kantarovski 6.5
Scored two goals, which makes the scoreline look a lot better. However, had struggled to contain Daniel Adlung.

Patito Rodriguez 5
Made a few runs forward and did alright considering his few opportunities to go forward. After half time played an unfamiliar role as a striker.

Ronald Vargas 5.5
Nearly opened the scoring with his free kick and played well considering he had been out for a long time. Played well in patches.

Riley McGree 6
The only attacker who was in the starting XI for Newcastle in recent matches. Offered a lot of energy, a few shots on goal, but a quiet night under his standards.

Joey Champness 4
Won and conceded a lot of fouls. Other than that, hardly anything. To his credit, won a direct free kick which hit the crossbar.

Subs
Nick Cowburn 4.5

Replaced Joey Champness and was part of Ernie Merrick’s plans to change formation. Offered little more than Joey Champness out wide.

Wayne Brown 3.5
Played as a defensive midfielder in his sides overrun. Failed to track the run of Kitto in Adelaide’s third goal. Was in no man’s land for the fourth and the fifth.

Angus Thurgate 4.5
Had enough time to make an impact, but didn’t.
