Final score
South Sydney Rabbitohs 34
Manly Sea Eagles 6
The South Sydney Rabbitohs will have to be at the top of their game at home when they host a Manly Sea Eagles side coming off a crushing win last week. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match from 5.30pm (AEDT).
After falling in golden point against the Newcastle Knights in round one, Manly returned to winning ways in style, smashing the Parramatta Eels 54-0.
It was the perfect response from Trent Barrett’s men, and now the Eagles get another opportunity to build their healthy points differential when they travel to ANZ Stadium to take on the winless Bunnies.
The Rabbitohs punched above their weight against the Penrith Panthers away from home, but still failed to convert a 14 point advantage into a win, eventually losing the match late on.
In their first home game of the season, however, the Rabbitohs should be expected to provide a bigger test than what Manly received last week at Brookvale Oval.
Prediction
Manly remain a premiership dark horse. Their forward pack is well led by Martin Taupau, Jake Trbojevic and Curtis Sironen. If these players build on last week’s performance, they will lay the platform for Daly Cherry-Evans and Tom Trbojevic to pile on the points and lead Manly to back-to-back wins.
For Souths to stand a chance, the Burgess brothers will need to lift yet again, just like they did last week. Cody Walker and Adam Doueihi also need to feed star centre pairing Greg Inglis and Dane Gagai some quality ball.
Overall, Manly appear to have more points in them and should get the win in a fairly tight contest.
