It might be Good Friday, but there is still horse racing in Australia taking place, with the main focus being at Ascot. Here are my five suggested plays across the meeting.

Bet One- Each Way- Race Three Number 8 Demeritorious
I think you just have to have something small each way on him because he just looks the wrong price at $20+. If he’s forward enough I think he’ll just about win.

Kicked off his career in the Spring with a two run prep, winning on debut at Geraldton before failing here on Melbourne Cup Day but did pull up with heat stress and that is a query here because the forecast is for 32. You’ll know your fate I think by how he parades.

Bet Two- Win- Race Four Number 3 Deadly Shot
One of the better bets on the card for mine. Might have been $31 when winning last Wednesday at Bunbury but to my eye, the win was outstanding with a touch of dominance, sitting wide with cover before peeling clear and letting down hard.

Should get the ideal sit off noted speedster New Time and have last look. Like him alot here.

Bet Three- Each Way- Race Five Number 5 Undisclosed
You’ll know your fate with this mare after a couple of strides because if she us tardy away, then she has no chance.

I’m hoping she jumps, runs and clings on. Colin Webster trains this mare and she can be very hot and cold but if she is on and right to go, her speed will be too much for these. Hasn’t raced since October 21 last year when missing the kick which sealed her fate.

No trials, but she’s the sort of type that doesn’t need much to be forward in condition.

Bet Four- Win- Race Seven Number 2 Assetro
Feature of the day is the Gimcrack and I’m pretty confident this girl can get the job done. Quality filly for Adam Durrant who has won two of her three career outings.

Ran over this track/distance just under four weeks back where she got well back off the speed but once Pike presented her out wide, she savaged the line like she did on debut and was most impressive. Confident she wins.

Bet Five- Win- Race Nine Number 2 Magical Charm
Blasting out with a near good thing I feel in this Team Williams girl. Dominant maiden win over 2000m at Bunbury two back before stepping up to 2200m on that track where she hit the front and looked the winner but just didn’t quite see it through when pipped late by Plays The Game. Should get a lovely run from the barrier and appears the safe option.
