There’s not much time left to earn a spot in the A-League’s top six and that makes this week’s match a crucial one for the Brisbane Roar as they host the Central Coast Mariners. Coming into this match Brisbane find themselves outside the top six – they’ve actually got one more win than the side keeping them out at the moment, the Western Sydney Wanderers, but haven’t been able to find the draw and split the points as many times as that side.
They’re only one point behind them though so as long as they have a better finish to the year, they’re a good chance to pip them in the race for a top six spot.
Of course, Perth Glory in eight spot are on almost the same level – except they have a much worse goal difference than Brisbane, and have one less game in hand.
The good news for Brisbane is that their fate is pretty much in their own hands – after today’s match they’re going up against the Wanderers and the Glory in their last two.
Win those matches and finals qualification is a locked and loaded guarantee.
A win today would put them in good stead though and they’ll be the favourites at home against the Central Coast Mariners.
As for the Mariners themselves, the time to make a play for finals has come and past. The only question left for them now is whether they can stay ahead of the Wellington Phoenix as the two sides battle to avoid the wooden spoon.
