The Sydney Swans weren’t superb against the West Coast Eagles last week, but a win on the road, and it being the opening round, is a very good start for the red and white team.

The star from last week, Lance Franklin, who ended up with eight goals, will be looking to lead from the front again and be the difference in this clash.

‘Unplayable’ is the word that springs to mind when it comes to Franklin when he’s in this type of form, and there is no denying the Port Adelaide defence will have a handful to deal with this week.

In team news for the Swans, they have some notable players returning. Gary Rohan and Dan Hannebery come in to bolster a team that is already a strong outfit. Nic Newman and Robbie Fox drop out the side and onto the emergency list.

As for Port Adelaide, they had a dominant win against the Fremantle Dockers to start their season at Adelaide Oval.

The recruits in Steven Motlop, Jack Watts and Tom Rockliff all looked very good in their Power debuts. They have been brought in to project this list forward and push them towards a flag. If they can stand up and be the difference between a Power win or loss up in Sydney, many may start to believe.

In team news for the Power, Paddy Ryder comes out after injuring his Achilles last week in Port’s win over Fremantle. In good news, Robbie Gray returns after his one-game suspension lingering from the JLT Community Series.

One does get the feeling this has the potential to be a thriller, especially when considering how both sides go about their business.

Prediction
The Swans will start the season with two wins after they beat the Power on Sunday. The home ground advantage, and just being a better outfit than Ken Hinkley’s side will be the difference, but I would not be surprised if this game was still a close one for majority of it.

Sydney Swans by 19.
