The Cronulla Sharks will be hosting another team sitting in the middle of the pack on two wins, two losses in 2018 when they welcome the Sydney Roosters. Join The Roar from 6pm (AEST) for live coverage.

While the Sharks sit in 9th on the table at the moment, they will be playing with a whole lot of confidence after a backs-to-the-wall win over the reigning premier, Melbourne.

Now, the Storm are having their own disjointed start to the season, so time will tell how significant Cronulla’s win was.

Which is all the more reason to back up last week’s performance this round against a wounded opponent. Of course, beware the wounded Rooster.

It appears that it Sydney taking longer than anticipated acclimatizing to the new halves pairing of Cronk and Keary. Which is fine, when you have long-term grand final prospects in mind.

But Cronk is not a long-term prospect. He was brought to Sydney to add the finish to the team that just wasn’t getting enough, apparently, out of Mitchell Pearce. The point being that, while the Roosters are not necessarily going badly, they were supposed to be going better.

And they were not going well at all last week against a fired up Warriors outfit. The Roosters have a lot more to prove than a hardened Sharks outfit coming off a morale boosting, but energy sapping, win over Melbourne.

So as I said: Beware the wounded rooster.

The return of Josh Dugan to the Sharks line-up should add a little bit of energy to their backline, though after last week, they’ll be looking for Josh to remain composed, solid, and disciplined, rather than flashy.

Also, it would not surprise if the Sharks, in the same vein as the Roosters with Cronk, would like to see a bit more early return on their investment in Moylan.

More so given that they player they released, Maloney, is proving to be a confirmed match winner for the Panthers.

Prediction
Sharks would see last week as a win wasted if they don’t back it up, at home, against a team coming off a thumping. Expect an improved Roosters effort, but the Sharks should be good enough at home.

Sharks by 6.
