This is a matchup of two New Zealand coaches who are mentoring non-Kiwi sides. Jamie Joseph has had a long-standing career and achieved considerable success.

However, his win rate were facilitated by well-drilled teams. His 2015 Highlanders won the Super Rugby trophy. His Japanese national team, recently beat Tonga and tied with the French in France.

However Joseph is unable to score a single win this season so far. The closest loss was a surprise two point deficit against the Lions in Johannesburg.

The worst performance so far was a 50 point whipping by the Chiefs at home. The only other time the Sunwolves played the Waratahs was a 45 point blasting in 2016 by the New South Welshmen, who were too big, too fast and too experienced.

Daryl Gibson, the Waratahs coach, is probably sleeping better. His team is second place in the Australian conference behind the Rebels. A bonus point win today will place the Waratahs only 1 point behind the Melbournites.

They beat the Rebels by 24 points two rounds ago. I believe the margin for this game will be bigger.

Sunwolves Billy Britz and his crew of Japanese and international players will need to play their best to keep players such as Taqele Naiyaravoro, Kurtley Beale and Captain Michael Hooper out tryline.

This is a chance for the Sunwolves to break their losing streak, however unlikely.

What is likely is Pieter Labuschagne otherwise known as “Lappies” will tackle everything wearing blue and everyone with his accurate, powerful tackling.

Joseph is probably wondering how he can bring in more “Lappies” into the team.
