The battle of the AFL mid-range goal kickers was alive in the game between Richmond and Hawthorn with the exploits of Eddie Betts already known (three goals) and the non-appearance (again) of West Coast’s Josh Kennedy.

The battle ended in a four-all draw, with Jack Riewoldt moving to within three of club mate Dick Harris, and increasing his lead over Eddie Betts to 8, who drew level with Essendon champion John Coleman.

He also maintained his lead of 9 over Jarryd Roughead. Josh Kennedy is fading into the distance and is 17 goals behind Roughead.

For Richmond, Shaun Grigg’s one goal moved him past Mike Green and Greg Stafford and into a four-way tie with Ron McDonald, Allan Edwards and Neville Crow in 84th place.

Hawthorn’s main mover was Cyril Rioli who with one goal stole the march on teammate Jack Gunston in the tight battle for the 300-goal milestone.

In the exciting Western Bulldogs-Essendon game, Bomber favourite Joe Daniher, despite two muck-ups in the final quarter, got back on the scoreboard this week with two goals, but that was not enough to see his position change.

On the other hand, Cale Hooker’s one goal not only took him past Nathan Lovett-Murray and Steven Clarke but drew him level with Wayne Primmer and George Barker who was born in 1885 and topped the Bombers goal kicking in 1905, despite being born in Collingwood!
