The Western Sydney Wanderers’ season is over after a final-round loss confirms they’ll miss out on the top six.
Final score
Western Sydney Wanderers 2
Adelaide United 3

And then there were seven. It all comes down to ninety minutes of action to decide the finals make up for 2018 and the Western Sydney Wanderers have a clear equation before them.
After Brisbane’s gutsy win in Perth last night, the Wanderers must win this game. Nothing else will get it done and Adelaide United could play the spoiler or the assistant.
It places the visitors in an interesting position knowing that this is really nothing more than a fine-tune for the finals and look for some key personnel to be rested.
The Wanderers don’t have that luxury and will have to throw everything they have at the Reds, who can be tough to break down at the back when in form.
We saw that stoic attitude at the back when they held Sydney FC to a draw back in January; lately it has been less evident.
If Adelaide are happy to sit back a little and decide to derail the season for the red and black, it will be Western Sydney’s challenge to find avenues to goal and an improvement in the quality of the crossing might be a good place to start.
When Oriol Riera is given good ball up front he will convert yet this has happened far too infrequently this season.
Prediction
Even considering the events of last night, I will stick with my prediction from early in the week and stay with the draw and thus, Brisbane will play a semi-final.
Western Sydney Wanderers 1, Adelaide United 1
