Western Bulldogs ruck-forward Tom Boyd is finally back in the AFL.
His five second-half goals in the VFL last weekend confirmed his recall for Saturday’s match against Fremantle at Optus Stadium.
Boyd was one of the heroes of the Bulldogs’ historic 2016 premiership, kicking three goals and taking eight marks in the grand final win over Sydney.
But the No.1 draft pick’s career suddenly went on hold midway through last season.
He took time off because of depression and returned to the VFL later in the season.
Boyd’s pre-season was hampered by a glute injury.
He is among four inclusions, with Zaine Cordy returning from suspension.
The Bulldogs recalled Lukas Webb and Patrick Lipinski as Lachie Hunter (suspension), Bailey Williams (middle ear infection), Jack Redpath (knee) and Shane Biggs went out of the side.
Fremantle will promote Taylin Duman for his AFL debut and have recalled Ed Langdon, with Michael Johnson listed as managed and Tommy Sheridan dropped.
North Melbourne have brought Sam Wright into their squad for Sunday’s game against Hawthorn.
He has not played since round 11 two seasons ago because of ankle and foot injuries.
Cyril Rioli (knee) and Paul Puopolo (hamstring) are the only confirmed changes for the Hawks.
Brisbane have dropped Sam Mayes and Rhys Mathieson for Sunday’s Gabba match against Gold Coast.
The final Sunday teams will be confirmed on Friday afternoon.
Teams for the two Anzac Day games will be announced on Monday.
Melbourne and Richmond will play on Anzac Day eve, before the traditional Collingwood-Essendon blockbuster.
