The crucial cogs of AFL's Round 7: Which players need to be the difference makers?
We’re taking a look at one player from each team that needs to make a difference this week, starting with the ANZAC Day games.
Star Port Adelaide AFL midfielder Hamish Hartlett is being assessed after suffering a knee injury at training on Thursday.
Port’s general manager of football, Chris Davies, said an “innocuous incident” was what caused the serious injury, describing it as a “terrible blow for Hamish and the football club.”
“We fear Hamish won’t be back on the field for some time,” he said.
Port chief executive Keith Thomas previously said he was aware of the incident but was unable to provide further details on the severity of the injury.
The 27-year-old Hartlett has played all five matches to date this year for a career tally of 153. He’s averaged just under 20 disposals a game so far, as well as three inside 50s and two clearances.
Originally pick four in the 2008 draft, Hartlett enjoyed a career-best patch of form between 2013 and 2015, where he played every game.
His 2015 campaign was arguably his best, with the midfielder averaging 22 disposals and six tackles a game.
After a convincing start to the season saw the Power blow away both Fremantle and Sydney in the opening two rounds, they’ve struggled to recapture that form since.
An almighty scare against the Brisbane Lions saw them sheepishly claim four more points, but the last two weeks have seen them put in disappointing efforts against Essendon and Geelong.
Port Adelaide will look to get their season back on track against North Melbourne this Saturday at Etihad Stadium.
