Is the season starting to settle down and make sense or is it only going to get more confusing? We’ll find out in Round 6.

While Carlton and the Bulldogs probably isn’t an appealing Friday night match up, at least it’s a game that could be reasonably close. Bulldogs have shown more good form this year so I will tip them.

One feels like Lance Franklin could’ve torn Geelong’s backline apart on Saturday… but with him and Dan Hannebery out, I will be backing the Cats.

Good chance I’m setting myself up for disappointment but I reckon North Melbourne can upset a Port Adelaide side missing Paddy Ryder, Hamish Hartlett and Sam Powell-Pepper.

The Giants have no Josh Kelly, no Toby Greene, and are going into their match against Brisbane without anything resembling a ruckman. Stefan Martin will have an absolute field day… and the Lions will win a stunner.

Matt Crouch is back for Adelaide but Brad is still on the bench and Rory Sloane too, which makes every game dangerous right now and Gold Coast are a dangerous team. But at home in Adelaide, the Crows get the job done.

St Kilda’s effort level was very respectable last week but it takes more than effort to beat a side like Hawthorn, and I don’t think the Saints have much more than effort to their name right now. Hawks to notch another Launceston win.

The way Melbourne plays the game should give Essendon trouble, but with Christian Petracca now joining Jack Viney and Tom McDonald on the sidelines, they could lack the class to take advantage of that. Tipping the Dons.

Collingwood are probably as good a chance of beating Richmond at the MCG as any side in the league right now, but I will stick with the Tigers.

Fremantle and West Coast have both performed above expectations so far this year setting up what looks like a top-notch derby. I’ll go with the Dockers largely on gut feel.

Hmm – actually quite a difficult round to find a lock of the week in. I’ll say Adelaide over Gold Coast, but I reckon every match in Round 6 has serious upset potential.

Geelong should be too strong at home for the Swans sans Buddy, but Sydney have no fears of Kardinia Park. I think it’ll be close.

Port are tough to get a read on and the Roos are anything but easy beats, but I expect the Power to bounce back after back-to-back disappointing losses.

GWS will thump the Lions and Adelaide will make equally easy work of the Suns.

Who the hell knows what will happen in Launceston. The Hawks should be a better side than the Saints, so I’ll tip them.

I thought Melbourne showed a bit on Tuesday night but got overwhelmed by the best team in the comp. I expect them to maul Essendon.

I can’t tip against Richmond at the MCG and I’ll take the Eagles in the derby – Matt Taberner’s injury hurts the Dockers.

Bulldogs in the Friday night snooze-fest. Carlton are looking down the barrel of 0-11 at their bye.

Teams have been rising above injury, but the Swans are going to have to pull out something special without Buddy down at Geelong. The Cats are gettable, as we have seen, but have to stick with them at home.

Port to bounce back after a shocker, and put North in their place a bit. GWS, Hawthorn, Adelaide are simple selections to round out the Saturday games.

What a Sunday awaits.

The loser of Essendon vs Melbourne is going to be 2-4, and probably two games and percentage out of the eight. Demons to win, and kick-start their season.

Have to stick with Richmond against Collingwood, although the Pies coming off the bruise-free opposition of Essendon evens out the shorter break they have.

Both WA teams have had a reasonably charmed run with the draw so far, but trusting the Eagles a bit more at this stage.

Sydney have done pretty well at Kardinia Park in recent years, but I’m still tipping the Cats to get up at home. It’s hard to get a read on either team at the moment.

For now, I’m still a North Melbourne sceptic. Recent form suggests the Roos should win this but to me Port’s team looks stronger in the midfield and more dangerous up forward. The Power to get the 4 points. Maybe.

Essendon and Melbourne is another game between two sides whose form is tough to truly figure out. These two sides played last year after Anzac Day at the same venue in what was an awful game of footy. Melbourne won that game – more or less by default – and once again I’ll go for the slightly less tired Demons.

I’m a little embarrassed to have tipped against the Pies last week, and now they’ve put together two superb performances in a row I have no excuse. Except that if anything Richmond are in even better form right now. The Tigers to get up, but expect a serious bandwagon to develop if Collingwood knock off the reigning premiers.

Elsewhere, the Bulldogs over the Blues, GWS to inflict all kinds of pain on Brisbane, Hawthorn to bounce back in Tassie over the Saints, Adelaide to belt the Suns, West Coast to beat an in form but injury affected Freo.
