Match preview:

The Blues find themselves at the bottom of the Super Rugby pile, but will be keen to pick up a confidence-restoring victory when they play host to the steadily improving Jaguares in Auckland. Join The Roar for live scores from 5:35pm (AEST).

The Auckland-based outfit have slumped from low to low this year, sitting with just two wins to their name from eight starts as we begin the run to the finals.

Finals hopes for the Blues are already just about extinct, but with next year on the mind, they need to build through the later weeks of the season and see if they can force a miracle to work their way into a wildcard spot.

If that’s going to happen, they need wins, and big ones to improve a for and against reading negative 56.

While they did beat the winless Sunwolves on the road a fortnight ago, it doesn’t say much when they only managed to run up 24. They were brought crashing back to Earth last week with an 18-point defeat at home to the Highlanders and it’s a trend which has followed them around this season – their defence being a leaky ship.

The Jaguares aren’t going a great deal better, but given where they were last season, four wins from their nine games is probably about as good as even their most optimistic fans might have hoped for.

It was a shock win away from home last week, with the Argentinian club getting the better of a struggling Brumbies in Canberra by just five points. It means they have won two straight away from home after doing the same to the Rebels last week, and they will be bursting with confidence as they continue their charge in the South African conference.

While they are still pinned in last place, they are just three points behind the second-placed Bulls and another win here would have them primed to make a charge at a wildcard spot over the back end of the season.

Prediction
The Blues have been pretty abysmal and are showing no signs of turning things around any time soon. The Jaguares have the confidence from a victory last week though and should cause a boilover in Auckland.

Jaguares by 8.
