The Adelaide Carnival swings into action this Saturday at Morphettville with a Group l doubleheader, the UBET Classic and Schweppes Oaks, while at the Gold Coast, it’s Hollindale Stakes Day.

Here are my five suggested plays across the meetings.

Bet One – Each Way – Gold Coast Race Two Number 8 Tyzone
Took a slice of the $15 opening price so I’m pleased to see support. He was a star in North Queensland, simply being too good for them. He’s got the makings of a Saturday class horse, which is why the connections elected to send him to Toby Edmonds, and his trial win here recently was outstanding.

I think he can get the job done and knock off the boom horse Mr Marbellouz.

Bet Two – Each Way – Gold Coast Race Three Number 14 Zamex
One of the better each way gambles of the weekend provided we get a firm surface. He didn’t look entirely happy on the bog track first up at Doomben but still made up good ground in the straight behind dominant winner River Racer.

Big tracks and firm footing are the ticks for this horse and he gets them both here, plus a hot speed, so he’ll do me.

Bet Three – Win – Gold Coast Race Seven Number 10 Champagne Cuddles
Tough meeting at the Gold Coast, but she looks the good thing. She didn’t win a race in the Spring but the races she ran and how close she came was the campaign of a high-class filly. Ran into Alizee several times and we know how good she is.

Been given the good break with this Carnival in mind and her trials leading in have been outstanding. I’d also save on Marble. His Mick Dittman run was huge.

Bet Four – Win – Morphettville Race Six Number 7 Savacool
Been telling anyone that will listen since her trials this prep that she’s the Oaks horse and I won’t be jumping off. The margin was narrow last time out at Caulfield but there was a touch of arrogance about the win.

Regan got going a fair way from home and being second up, she was there to be beaten, but she held them comfortably. Really keen to see her up in trip on a big track.

Bet Five – Win – Morphettville Race Seven Number 2 Viddora
Class to the fore here I think. Sits second behind In Her Time as the best sprinting mare in Australia and that looks good enough for me. Resumed in the Irwin a fortnight back and there are some who were saying she was disappointing behind Dainty Tess.

Yes, missed the kick and from there nothing really went right, but she still attacked the line well enough I thought given she was only properly clear 100m out. Better luck here and I’m confident she can bounce back into the winners list. Very wary of Catchy.
