Brad Hill set to be dumped as leader at Dockers

Brad Hill’s stint in Fremantle’s leadership group will be a short one, with the former Hawk set to be dumped following his recent run-in with police.

Hill, who crossed from Hawthorn to Fremantle at the end of 2016, was elevated to the Dockers’ leadership group on the eve of the current season.

But he is set to be demoted for a series of breaches that he committed during a night out in Scarborough two weeks ago.

Hill was spoken to by police after jumping a barrier at a Scarborough nightspot in a bid to get into the venue.

He is being investigated by police for breaching a move-on notice, and for giving police a false name.

Damningly, Hill didn’t tell the club about his run-in with police until a TV station contacted Fremantle about the incident a number of days later.

Hill also broke the team’s alcohol policy by drinking while injured.

There are also reports he had been drinking alcohol on at least one other occasion prior to that.

Hill has been sidelined since injuring his knee in round two.

The club initially expected Hill to miss only one or two weeks with the bone bruising.

But Hill is struggling to overcome the injury, and no definitive timeline has been set on his return.

Hill enjoyed a standout debut campaign at the Dockers last year, winning the club’s best and fairest award.

He also has three flags to his name from his time at Hawthorn.

Fremantle are expected to hand down their official punishment to Hill on Tuesday.

Hill’s off-field misdemeanour comes at a bad time for Fremantle, who are still dealing with the fallout of the sexual harassment storm that engulfed coach Ross Lyon.

The club’s hierarchy has publicly backed Lyon, but the negative attention severely damaged Fremantle’s brand.

Dockers chief executive Steve Rosich said the club’s staff were currently undertaking extra training on the AFL’s respect and responsibility policy.

I have zero problem with this.

Now, all this aside, let’s hope he focuses on getting back in the field.

Good young bloke who stuffed up, outcome is logical.
Didn’t think I’d see a cousins type incident of giving a false name when highly recognisable again.
Oh well we all make mistakes and brad is young and will certainly learn from this.

Yep, sometimes ppl forget how young players are, if it becomes a regular issue then he will deserve a level of scrutiny but seems to be a likeable kid so hopefully this is a once off. I’d be more concerned about possibly causing delays in his rehab more so than the false name issue if I was a freo supporter.

If being booted from the leadership group of a footy club isn’t a deterrent, I dunno what is!

But yes, nice amicable comments there Matti.

Another case of footy players living in a bubble, “don’t you know who i am” syndrome. Not the first, won’t be the last unfortunately.
As for the dockers staff getting training, does anyone else see the problem when senior adults need to be taught how to behave at work?

If he used the “don’t you know who I am ploy”, why’d he have to give a fake name?

Re: staff getting training, from my understanding that’s a general thing that I presume happens in all workplaces for various things. Perhaps someone can confirm this, but don’t staff in generally big companies get training in regards to respect and all sorts of HR matters?

Unhappy with a 30 point win despite having the Hills, Walters, Tabs and Wilson out? Back on track? The guys are 4 and 4 and have 7 of last year’s bottom 8 to play…some of them twice. They are one win away from equal 3rd.

They are on track for top 6, probably top 4.

Jonboy- after the Richmond game didn’t Ross make it known he was concerned about freos travelling form and possibility they could become a team that wins at home but falls apart on the road. With complete certainty I will say he’ll have moved on from the saints game and will be demanding a four quarter effort on the road.

Freo on the road form last 2 years has not been to bad ,What has gone wrong? Don will use the injury excuse but the fact is there were more injuries then than now and you have to except there will always be injuries part and parcel of the game.

Jonboy-we saw with wce it can become an issue that takes time to sort out, more so the mental side than anything else, if it becomes in grained to a young group can take a few seasons to change thought pattern

No, Don will say it is not bad this year. Everyone tipped Freo to lose in Adelaide to Port. Richmond and GWS were top of the tree just last year. Nothing has gone wrong. The games have gone exactly to everyone’s expectations.

They have only played 3 away. Sure we have had significant players out and that is a valid reason. The only really bad loss this year was their first against Port. There were great signs against Richmond in that 3rd quarter but the impressive power of Richmond overwhelmed our kids. That will happen less and less as they gain experience and we get a few experienced players back to support them.

Same old Don line ” and when we get a few experienced players back ” You already Have Sandilands ,Mundy, Johnson, Ballantyne D.Pearce, Fyfe, Neale,Hill, and Hamling just to name a few how many more experienced players do you want/ ? Spurr. ?

Pearce, Johnson and Walters did not play in the Richmond game (do you ever read the posts or just pick out one phrase?). Hamling is not experienced at all. Our defence was young and folded under pressure because our young half forwards, McCarthy, Cerra, Brayshaw, Crowden lost a handle on their roles. Mundy and Ballas were isolated by that chasm at half forward and Sandi and Fyfe were left as the only leaders. They cannot be everywhere.

Rather than argue, have a break and do some thinking. Maybe watch a replay or two or get on websites and read what Hardwick and Lyon said.

Two under-performing teams but they have also played the two top sides. The Gold Coast was a comfortable win…but classy. The Bulldogs are one win from 3rd position.

No wonder you find no joy from footy.
