Jaguares vs Bulls: Super Rugby live scores

By Scott Pryde / Expert

It’s approaching crunch time in Super Rugby and there won’t be too many more important games over the last month than the all South African conference battle between the Jaguares and Bulls in Buenos Aires. Join The Roar for live scores from 7:40am (AEST).

The Jaguares looked at one point like they were going to be in for another long and brutal season, but they have more than found their feet in the last five or six weeks.

They got on the board by beating the Waratahs and backed it up with another over the South African conference-leading Lions a fortnight later, but it’s the last four weeks which have made the rugby community sit up and take notice of the plucky Argentinian team.

Mario Ledesma’s team have picked up four straight, allowing them to improve their record to six and five and sit second on the table in the South African conference. Victories over the Rebels, Brumbies, Blues and Chiefs all away from home has put together the best run in franchise history.

Winning at home was never such a shock for the Jaguares, but four straight on the road comes as a major surprise, with the team building on the back of their defence, attacking with freedom because of their ability to control the game on their own line and picking up victories as a result.

While they haven’t dominated any of the games, they have done enough to stay in them and then strike at the right times.

The Bulls are also on 24 competition points, but behind the Jaguares because of for and against. With such a logjam for wildcard spots, every single game over the final month of the season carries significance and the Bulls must find a way to win away from home here, something they have struggled to do this season.

Their form has just been inconsistent. Losses to the Highlanders and Stormers were followed up last week by a 39-33 victory over the Stormers, but it’s the high-scoring nature of that game which can point fingers at the Bulls problems.

Commitment in defence has been lacking throughout the season from the Bulls and if they can’t find a way to wear down the Jaguares and play the game at a slightly slower speed, they may well be dominated like the last four Argentinian opponents.

Prediction
The Jaguares have been great away from home, so there’s no reason to suspect they will be worse at home.

Jaguares by 8.

I think the lions are too far ahead, if lions go 2/3, then the Jags or Sharks will need to go 4/4 and I don't think that will happen. In fact, Sharks and Jags have to play each other twice, I can see the home team winning both and handing the conference to the Lions.

Thier home loss to the Reds will most likely destroy their chances to win the conference, but the Lions look a bit fragile so who knows.

Good going Jaguares, I think they can definitely win the SA conference. If they do they might go to the finsl

The Jags really did play well in the 2nd half!! If they beat the Sharks and Stormers in their next 2 games in Arg, then I think that will get them in the top 8. They may even get a win away from home to the Bull or Sharks, which would definitely secure a top 8 spot. For the Jags, it is just retaining momentum and discipline. They have won 5 games in a row now, including 4 on the road and beating 2 kiwi teams in NZ. No reason why that momentum will stop now. They could be a very dangerous team come finals time. The way the Jag have played previous years, and the beginning of this year will still make Jag fans nervous of making the playoffs though, but this could be the year!.

Thanks Pinetree. It is rather like a blue moon issue. I did not recall round 2. I was pleasantly surprised at how well they played in the second half. I must admit that during the first half the Bulls looked more promising.

Carlos - In round 2, the Blues, Chiefs and Hurricanes lost. Congrats on a convincing dominant performance from the Jags, great to see!

I said it before, Argies with confidence and purpose are a deadly combination. Combine that gritty defense and exemplary discipline with slick skills, hard running and belief and you got yourself a very serious team. On current form, the Jags would back themselves against any team in the competition. Funny that with all the doom and gloom talk about Super Rugby, it is the two expansion teams that put smiles on the faces of all neutral supporters. And to put an explanation mark how dominant the Jags were, the Argie ref gave them nothing for free.

Another remarkable try! They are playing very nice. I hope they maintain this through the year. But Bulls haven't showed up in the second half.

Weird bulls try. The offside call was a bit dodgy.

Jags look like the AB's on a good day in the second half. Too clinical and the pill is thrown around with purpose and speed. Super impressed!
