Nathan Buckley’s men look a different side this season as they have found ways to win games they perhaps would have lost last season. At best they will clinch a finals spot, but they look as if they have an obvious game plan, which is something they were criticised for not having the majority of last season.
Last week’s game had the potential to be one of those game they could lose, and they were tested by St Kilda, but they still came out with a 28-point win.
The patience that has been shown from the club when it comes to Jordan De Goey is starting to pay off as he put another match-winning performance together by kicking six majors.
Steele Sidebottom is showing no signs of slowing up as he reeled in 38 touches, and he was pivotal for the Pies being convincing winners.
In team news for the Pies this week, Josh Daicos and Levi Greenwood will play their first AFL games of the season. Ben Reid also comes into the side.
Alex Fasolo (ankle), Daniel Wells (rested) and Sam Murray (omitted) are the exclusions.
As for the Western Bulldogs, it was a night to forget against the Adelaide Crows where they could only manage two goals in the wet.
They had their chances when you see they scored 14 behinds, so there’s no denying they should have done more damage on the scoreboard. Obviously, if it had been dry they would have kicked more, but two goals is never going to win you a game of footy regardless of the conditions.
They need to find more avenues to goal if they want to beat the Pies.
One of the shining lights was Marcus Bontempelli who showed his ability to win the ball in the wet with 28 disposals.
In team news for the Dogs this week, Josh Schache will make his debut for the club. Tory Dickson and Roarke Smith also come into the side.
Josh Dunkley, Mitch Wallis and Lukas Webb have been omitted.
Prediction
After watching the Dogs last week, it’s difficult seeing them piling up enough of a score to beat the Pies. Buckley’s men just have more going forward, and that will prove the difference in this clash.
