Racing in New South Wales this Monday sees a couple of meetings set down at Cessnock and Wagga. Here are my five plays across the programs.

Bet 1: win – Wagga Race 1, number one: Grand Challenge
Off of $1.50 seem short enough, but I’d probably anchor him in multis. He’s a nicely bred colt for the Hayes/Dabernig team who was just pipped on the peg last time out behind Whiteley. He should be near the front again and prove too classy for his rivals here given the exposed form is far inferior.

Bet 2: win – Wagga Race 6, number eight: Bocelli
I’m pretty keen on this bloke. He was touted as a Country Championships horse after stringing together two sharp wins, but it was all a bit too soon. He ran in a Rosehill Highway last time out and battled away quite well, I thought, behind Dia De Reyes. That form reads very well for this, I would have thought, and I think around $2.50 is acceptable.

Bet 3: win – Cessnock Race 1, number one: Tootz
Jump, run, lead and win. That’s the A1 scenario when racing at Cessnock and I hope this filly can adopt it. She tried very hard last time out at Gunnedah but was pinged right on the peg in a driving go. If she can find the front, game over, but even off the pace she’s clearly the horse to beat.

Bet 4: win – Cessnock Race 3, number six: All Ellie
I think she’s a great bet here. David Atkins trains this filly, who I was quite keen on last time out at Quirindi, but the replay is a nightmare to watch. She had no luck at all in the straight when appearing to be full of running, and it really was a hard-luck tale behind Blinkin Legend. Hopefully she gets better luck this time around.

Bet 5: each-way – Cessnock Race 7, number seven: Kamehameha
The last one was a tricky race for this one, but I think each-way: this gelding can run a race at odds. He’s got some really good stats at this track and is a speed demon, so if he jumps clean, I’m sure he’ll lead and give a great sight. He doesn’t have the greatest of first-up records but comes here with no trials under the belt, which is something I’m always wary of. More often than not that’s a guide they are ready to go.
