Seven races have been set down for Canterbury this Wednesday while in Melbourne, racing heads to Sandown. Here are my five plays across the programs.

Bet One: Win, Canterbury Race Two, Number 3 Highjacker
Normal luck from the gate and he is a moral. Comes out of a hot maiden on debut at Warwick Farm back in December before being tipped out. Two trials leading in have been outstanding and he looks ready to go. If he can hold a forward spot from the inside draw, I think he’ll be winning.

Bet Two: Win, Canterbury Race Six, Number 11 Tonsor
Gelding for Matty Smith who looks pretty talented. Not sure he beat much on debut at Kembla Grange but gee the way he won was impressive, leading all the way and burning the candle at both ends. Clearly more depth here, but stable must think highly of him to send him straight to town.

Bet Three: Win, Sandown Race One, Number 5 Winning Partner
He’s got the talent to beat these. Worked home really well last time out over 1400m at Flemington when fourth to Vassilator. He’s got the form on the board and the big tick for mine is the blinkers on for the first time to sharpen him up. That, and he draws the inside gate. Ticks a lot of boxes and should get the win.

Bet Four: Each Way, Sandown Race Two, Number 8 Two Bills
Why is this horse $14? Took an eternity to wind up fresh at the ‘Bool when pipped late. Freshened up and ran over 1800m at Warracknabeal where he was ridden a touch ugly, largely because he was the best horse in the race and won accordingly. Williams jumps back on and I think he can take some beating at odds.

Bet Five: Each Way, Sandown Race Eight, Number 3 Serenade The Stars
Peter Gelagotis trains this bloke who is first up. He hasn’t raced since late January when finishing down the track over 2500m at Flemington behind Last Week. Been given a good spell and has trialled up quite well on a couple of occasions. $8 at the moment is unders. Double figures is his price before having something on.
