Match result:

Brazil have defeated Austria at the Ernst Happel Stadium 3-0 on Monday morning.

It could not have gone any better for the Brazilian’s. The biggest fear they would have had going into their final friendly before a major tournament would have been injuries, but they have avoided that.

Austria started quite well defensively, but Brazil’s Gabriel Jesus opened the scoring with a classy finish in the first half, although one could argue it was offside.

In the second half, Brazil turned it on and Neymar was big in that happening. He got his inevitable goal and it was one to remember. Despite only coming back from his injury, he looks very sharp and Brazil need him in this form when Russia arrives.

Philippe Coutinho also showed his class after his former club teammate, Roberto Firmino, put him through on goal.

Brazil’s goalkeeper was challenged once for the whole day after Marko Arnautovic launched one from outside the box, but the ‘keeper was alert to the situation.

How far Brazil can go is up to them. They have all the tools and depth to seriously challenge. Even when changes were made, the style and momentum did not alter.

They are the favourites according to many, but will they be able to deal with that burden? Only time will tell.

Brazil finish up their 2018 FIFA World Cup preparations with a trip to the Ernst Happel Stadium to face Austria. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match, starting from 12 midnight (AEST).

Despite Austria not being involved in this year’s World Cup, they were impressive beating current world champions Germany 2-1 in their previous international friendly, at the beginning of the month.

It would be easy to throw in the towel knowing you won’t be featuring on football’s biggest stage, but they showed they have pride playing for their nation.

As for Brazil, they are coming off a 2-0 victory against Croatia, played at Anfield at the beginning of the month.

Brazil need Neymar firing in Russia, and he showed great signs of doing so with a goal of the highest order. He did come off the bench, as he hasn’t had an awful amount of game time since his injury, but is expected to start against Austria.

Roberto Firmino also netted one, and he could be a handy option, whether he is a starter or coming off the bench.

How far Brazil go is yet to be seen, but they possess talent and depth, which always are ingredients needed for World Cup winners. You’d be foolish to write them off.

Prediction
Brazil have too much quality for Austria and this will be another confidence-boosting performance for them heading into Russia.

Brazil 3-0 Austria.
