Warwick Farm is where Sydney racing takes place this Wednesday, while at Melbourne Sandown will host an eight-race card. Here are my five plays across the afternoon.

Bet 1: Win – Warwick Farm Race 1, number one: Highjacker
I think if he handles the wet track, he’ll be winning. He’s been given two 1000-metre trials to prepare for his return and has looked very good each time he has stepped out. Fav has looked good too, but two soft 900-metre trials for a wet track resumption, especially at the red figures, I can’t entertain. I’d much rather $4.20 to $4.40 for this bloke.

Bet 2: Win – Warwick Farm Race 5, number four: Cormac
I think he’ll start better than the $4.80 he’s at at at the moment. I thought his run here a fortnight back was a beauty, making his move on the inside, which was the no-go zone, when second to Sweet Victory. He’s drawn to be on the best part of the track, and Avdulla will shove him out hard to hopefully get him home.

Bet 3: Each-way – Warwick Farm Race 6, number eight: Firebird Flyer
If this track remains to have genuine give, I think she’s a great each way gamble. She’s been crying out for a wet track this time and, touch wood, she gets it here. Forget she went around last Wednesday given she got badly checked at the wrong time when building momentum. She has a good record here and up to 2100 metres will be perfect.

Bet 4: Win – Sandown Race 4, number ten: Hang Man
Four legs, fit and healthy – he’ll be winning. His win last time out at Bendigo was enormous. He sat back and wide throughout yet kept creeping forward, and once he hit the front he changed gears and went away from them. He’s a very promising type and I think only bad luck will see him getting beat.

Bet 5: Win – Sandown Race 5, number 11: Flash Cash
It’s a tough race but I’m confident this bloke runs well. He ran at Sale a couple of Wednesdays back and got back in an on-pace dominated affair but closed off really well and clocked some sharp late splits behind Parwan Prince. A bigger track should suit, and if he is able to sit closer in the run, I think he’ll take some beating.
