Controversy as Villa keeper handed second yellow for shootout crowd taunting... but isn't sent off
Emi Martinez was saved by a new rule that resets yellow cards at the end of extra time, meaning his second yellow for taunting…
The FIFA World Cup is here, and with it comes 64 games of football over the course of a month in the biggest sporting event on the planet. But which games can you watch on free-to-air TV in Australia?
Under a new broadcast deal for the World Cup, Optus are the official broadcaster of every game in Australia, with SBS also purchasing the rights to play a match every day of the tournament.
The deal states SBS will have the tournament opener, every Socceroos match and one per day thereafter as well as two of the quarter-finals, both semi-finals, the third-place play-off and of course the final.
Every match which isn’t available on SBS is live and exclusive on Optus Sport, while those games which are on SBS are simulcast with Optus.
Here are the matches which will be broadcast by SBS. Note matches in the third match-day will be picked in the lead-up, as they will aim to show those matches which have the biggest influence on who will proceed to the Round of 16.
UPDATE: Due to much publicised streaming issues plaguing Optus Sport, SBS was handed all additional group games to simulcast with Optus from June 18.
