There’s been a lot of controversy in recent times, given the lacklustre affairs provided to footy fans on Friday nights of late.
Finally, though – we’re being rewarded. This Friday night match shapes to be a very good one, given the recent form of both these teams.
There’s no worth repeating the uber-impressive form of the Eagles, but I’ll just remind you that they’ve won 10 straight.
Their only loss? Ironically enough, it’s against their opposition tonight. The Swans’ first-round victory over the Eagles came largely of the back of a perfect performance from Lance Franklin.
He’ll be important tonight, as ever, but perhaps his biggest competition at the opposite end of the ground – the resurgent Jack Darling – is out with injury, in a blow to the visitors.
Expect this one, nevertheless, to be high-scoring, fast and entertaining.
Perhaps the match-up that is most vital is the one between the big men – Callum Sinclair up against the Nic Natanui/Scott Lycett combo.
Both rucks have been among the league’s best this year, and whoever gains the ascenedency and helps their midfields will go a long way to deciding the victor.
A few changes for both teams. A duo for the Swans are out – Dan Robinson and Jarrad McVeigh, the latter with an injury. Allir Allir and Kerian Jack return to the squad.
The Eagles have made four changes – Brendn Ah Chee and Mark Hutchings have been omitted, whilst Darling and Tom Barrass are out with injury.
Chris Masten, Luke Shuey and Liam Ryan are all important ins, whilst Jarrod Brander will debut.
Prediction
Flip a coin. No, seriously – flip a coin, it’ll be about the only way to choose who to tip.
I’m going the Swans. As impressive as the Eagles have been, I’m feeling the only team that can beat them is the Swans. And they will – in a close one.
Sydney Swans by 8 points
