Behind the barriers: Five bets for Randwick and Belmont

Sydney racing this Saturday heads to Randwick for a nine-race card, while over in the West, it is Belmont Guineas Day. Here are my five plays across the two meetings.

Bet One – Each Way – Randwick Race Two Number 8 Bella Success
Good race for the three year olds, but happy to have something on this girl. She resumed last Monday at Kensington where she got a fair way back off the speed but Collett gave her a lovely ride to save ground and launch late, just missing out on picking up Alassio.

Think 1400m will be her go but I think she’s good enough to beat these with the upside she’s got left. Good value.

Bet Two – Win – Randwick Race Five Number 4 Special Missile
I think he’s a good thing but he’s very short at the moment in betting. He has been racing quite well this time in but can’t quite crack it for a win. Well I think that will all change here.

Should lead for fun, gets weight relief, McDougall rides him well, wet track, won at the track/distance…he’ll do me.

Bet Three – Win – Belmont Race One Number 1 Fire And Rain
I reckon you can’t go wrong backing him in the opener. Paul Jordan trains this youngster, who is first up here after a pretty good first prep where he won two of three. Two trial wins to prepare for his return have been outstanding and from the draw, he should hold up and prove tough to hold out over the 1000m.

Bet Four – Each Way – Belmont Race Six Number 9 Necklet
$6.50+ e/w, she’ll do me. I’m happy to give her another look after racing over 1400m here a fortnight back where she was off the map with punters and after getting a lovely sit near the speed, she didn’t finish it off at all and was most disappointing behind Roganella. Firmer footing, hopefully, and up to the mile should suit.

Bet Five – Win – Belmont Race Seven Number 2 Profit Street
Confident he can bounce back. Notable drifing fav when resuming in the Beaufine and the market got it right as he struggled to let down on the soft track when fourth to Mr Motown.

I reckon on top of the ground, with the run under the belt, he should take a power of beating here. $4 is acceptable.
