We’re just two weeks away from the finals of the Gfinity Elite Series’ first ever season. With a four-way tie atop the CS:GO ladder, today’s esports action will go a long to way to painting a clearer playoff picture.

We kick off the day with an intriguing matchup, as the stunningly resurgent Sydney Chiefs clash with a Melbourne Avant side who have been remarkably consistent – just not remarkable.

Both sides occupy one half the four-team logjam at the top, while the other occupants of that bottleneck go head-to-head in the next clash, as Perth Ground Zero look to get rebound from a tough loss last weekend against an improving Melbourne Order team.

The day’s action then finishes with the Brisbnae Deceptors – looking for their first win of the season – tackling a Sydney Roar team who, despite sitting in fifth, could soar all the way to first with a big win.

Yesterday, Stirling Coates’ preview article gave the ticks to the Chiefs over Avant, Perth over the Order and the Roar over Brisbane.

The way this season has gone, however, means all bets are off.

7:00pm: What a dominant second half from the Sydney Roar – the best they’ve played since their famous Week 1 victory over the Chiefs.

They won 11 rounds in a row and, after trailing 10-5 at the half, picked up a stirring 16-10 win.

It’s an unfortunate case of deja vu for Brisbane, who took a 10-5 lead into their Week 1 match-up against Order, only to go 1-11 in the second half in a 16-11 loss.

6:50pm: The Roar needed a big response coming out of the half-time break – and they’ve delivered.

Five straight wins to start the second half as the CT-side has seen them level the scores at 10-10.

6:40pm: We could have a massive upset brewing here in the last game of the day. Brisbane looking very much the goods in the first half on Inferno.

They’re hitting shots, working well as a unit and have won seven rounds in a row.

It’s 10-5 to the underdog Deceptors at half time.

6:30pm: Sydney looked to be pulling away, but Brisbane are certainly hanging around so far.

Two quick round wins – the last coming courtesy of some fantastic stealth through smoke by MattCD sees them level it at 5-5 after ten.

6:20pm: Hard to get a read in the early going for this one on Inferno. Brisbane took the first two rounds as the CT-side, but the T-side Roar have hit back with three straight wins of their own.

3-2 Sydney after five.

6:15pm: After a lengthy technical pause, we’re finally underway. One change for each team, with Roar once against subbing in iNfrequent for iNsanity, and Brisbane recalling Konii at the expense of Artemis.

5:45pm: Some very quick matches earlier today means our final game of the day will start ahead of schedule.

It’ll be Sydney Roar looking to get themselves firmly back in the playoffs race when they clash with the winless Brisbane Deceptors.

5:30pm: Ground Zero’s resistance was impressive, but Order prevails at the Hoyts Gfinity Esports Arena. Melbourne have catapulted themselves to the top of the Elite Series standings with a resounding 16-7 victory.

We were always going to get answers about who the real contenders were today – we just didn’t know the answers would be this clear.

5:25pm: Perth looked to be on route to a disastrous loss after they dropped the second pistol round, but they’ve put together an impressive resistance since then.

There’s still a very long way to go, but they’ve picked up four consecutive rounds at have trimmed Order’s lead to 13-7.

5:15pm: It looks like we’re in store for an absolute bloodbath on Mirage.

Melbourne Order just cannot be stopped, with their rampant run carrying them to a nigh-unassailable 12-3 lead over Perth Ground Zero at the half.

5:05pm: Melbourne are starting to assert their authority now. They’ve won five rounds in a row and take an 8-2 lead over Perth.

4:55pm: The new-look Order side have looked extremely sharp, but Perth have come to play early.

They take the first and fifth rounds to make it a very respectable 2-3 deficit after five.

4:35pm: It’s another top-of-the-table clash awaiting us next; Perth Ground Zero will taking on an unrecognisable Melbourne Order side who’ve been, up until now, fielding a second-string side.

Their regulars are back from overseas competition – just how much of an improvement will this make?

4:10pm: It was a spirited rally from Melbourne Avant, claiming four straight rounds facing match point, but in the end they fall short of the important ten-round barrier (which would’ve netted them a bonus point).

The Sydney Chiefs have stamped their championship credentials emphatically – winning 16-9.

4:05pm: A downright impossible frag keeps Avant in the game for now – but they’re staring a heavy loss in the face right now down 15-6 with nine rounds to play.

3:55pm: It’ll be the Chiefs heading into the half time switch with the wind in their sails, although Avant were able to peg back a few rounds towards the end.

It’s 11-4 in favour of the Chiefs at the half although, given Train is a very CT-favoured map, the opportunity for Avant to make the comeback is certainly there.

3:45pm: It’s almost all gone the Chiefs’ way across the first ten rounds. Some basic skill errors really costing Melbourne and they find themselves down eight rounds to two.

3:35pm: Sydney Chiefs looking the better of the two sides early. Avant look to be comitting to the bomb plant to fervently and the Sydneysiders are able to capitalise.

They took the first three rounds as the CT side, and lead 4-1 after five.

3:25pm: One change for the Chiefs this weekend, with Doom subbing in for Tama. Avant are unchaged.

We’re headed to Train for this one.

2:55pm: One of the bigger crowds of the season at the Hoyts Gfinity Esports Arena for this one. Very vocal support for the Sydney Chiefs, who face off against the visitors-by-default in Melbourne Avant.
