There’s some really solid racing right across Australia on Sunday, with hopefully some winners to be had and found. Here are my suggested bets for the afternoon.

Bet 1: Each-way – Coonamble Race 7, number seven: Molasses
I think you can’t go wrong backing him each way. He got a mile out of his ground last time out over 900 metres at Wellington but worked home with purpose late to run third to I Am You Are, a very capable short-course specialist. Up to 1100 metres looks ideal and he only has to hold a relatively decent position from the inside gate to figure in the finish.

Bet 2: Win – Wagga Race 3, number three: Belfast Bella
I think only bad luck will see this girl beaten. Former French galloper that had her first Australian run at Goulburn, where she got well back off the speed and was doing a bit wrong but the finale was more than sound behind Classic Princess. I reckon 1600 metres-plus will be her go, but I think she has the quality to win over 1400 metres.

Bet 3: Win – Ballarat Race 2, number eight: Legale
If they can run on from the back, I think he’s one of two good things on the Ballarat program. The Hayes/Dabernig team train this three-year-old, who debuted and was good late in a strong form race at Sandown behind Duality before going to Wangaratta, where he got back and was held up, but I loved the way he found the line. Mile now, Williams on, form around him reads well, he’ll do me.

Bet 4: Win – Ballarat Race 9, number seven: Holy Freeze
Similar to Legale, I think only bad luck will see him getting rolled. He did a power of work first up at the Bool on a bog yet was still there kicking until he ran out of condition late to run third to Soul Fire. If that hasn’t busted him, he just looks so well-placed here. Stablemate Pique looks the key and perhaps only threat, but I’m keen on Holy Freeze.

Bet 5: Win – Hobart Race 6, number ten: Zuberina
This is a bit of a nothing race and this girl just has all the upside in the world compared to them, so for mine she’s the best of the day. She had her first run for the Brunton camp over 1400 metres here a month ago, and despite doing work in the run, she was far too good and the margin did flatter her rivals. This is her first try beyond 1400 metres, but off that resumption she should be fine. I’m keen to back her.
