A courageous Costa Rican performance earned them their first goals and point of the tournament, while Switzerland finish second in the group and march on to a round of 16 match against Sweden.
The Swiss will be aiming for a better performance against their European counterparts, as the Central American nation caused their opponents many headaches defensively.
They will be without captain Stephan Lichtsteiner and Fabian Schaer as both received their second yellow cards of the tournaments. As a result ultimately half of their back four will be unavailable.
There is room for improvement and the Swedish will test the Swiss’ credentials, especially as they come off the complete annihilation of Mexico which saw them leap from third to first in Group F.

Switzerland and Costa Rica have had differing World Cup campaigns and they will clash in the final matchday. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 4am (AEST).
The world number six incredibly have four points from a possible six after being drawn with the toughest start possible in Group E.
A ruthless and dogged performance against one of the cup heavyweights Brazil earned themselves a point. Whilst a second-half comeback, including a stoppage-time winner got them over the line against Serbia, in what was deemed before the start of the tournament as the playoff for second.
Costa Rica, on the other hand, have struggled in attack but have gained plaudits for their defensive efforts.
Two close losses ended their cup dreams in very unfortunate situations. A masterclass free-kick from Aleksandar Kolarov edged Serbia over the line, then two late stoppage time goals put an end to Costa Rica’s hopes seeing the Brazilians with their first victory.
Costa Rica only have pride to play for as they search for a solidarity World Cup point and goal before jetting back home but struggle tactically going forward.
Switzerland have impressed fans and are viewed as a promising team though they faced plenty of criticism for their NBA styled “hack-a-Shaq” tactics against Neymar.
Prediction
There are three possible scenarios involving Switzerland. Finishing 1st, 2nd or even missing out altogether. With the favoured opponent heading into the final matchday, Switzerland should be able to get the victory and depending on the result between Brazil and Serbia, could even see themselves finishing 1st. Though a possible meeting with the Germans is on the cards.

90+3" SWITZERLAND 2-2 COSTA RICA GOAL!!! Captain courageous Bryan Ruiz equalisers for Costa Rica and earns the Central American nation a World Cup point! A very fortunate penalty as the kick hit the crossbar, rebounded off into Sommer's back and into the net. Could easily be given as an own goal but Costa Rica don't care. They deserve at least a point.

87" SWITZERLAND 2-1 COSTA RICA Josip Drmic scores what will likely be the winner and it's total heartbreak for Costa Rica who will finish the tournament on 0 points. A fine finish into the bottom corner after a low cross from Zakaria puts the Swiss ahead and level on points with Brazil, though they will finish second on goal difference.

84" Costa Rica are banging on the door but the Swiss stay compact. A winner is on the cards here which ultimately won't bother the European nation but will mean a lot for the Central Americans.

82" Yellow card for Schaer for pulling back Campbell. He too like Lichtsteiner will miss the next match. That's half of the Swiss back four.

78" Again Costa Rica go on the counter, again the final phase off play lets them down. Switzerland very shaky at the back and managed to draw a foul after a scramble.

77" A cross from Embolo finds Drmic's head and he hits the corner of the woodwork. That goal frame has been hit three times in this game and no goal has been scored at that end.

76" Breel Embolo had a free header after a cross from Rodriguez but elected to lay it off for Drmic. Unselfish decisiion but the wrong one.

74" Switzerland seem very content with the point. Any result earns the same reward. No need to risk injury. Denis Zakaria does get a yellow card as Costa Rica are showing urgency in attack and Switzerland have to switch back on.

Switzerland's defence and Yann Sommer are struggling with Costa Rica's corners. Another close call, a fair bit of confusion going on.

67" Thiago Silva heads in a corner and Brazil are 2-0 up. Surely it's safety for Switzerland regardless of what happens.

If Costa Rica take the lead it would open the door wide open for Serbia to capitalise.
