GWS had a solid win against Brisbane last Saturday, kicking away in the second half for a 27-point victory.
The win was marred by Jeremy Cameron’s strike on Harris Andrews in the first quarter, without Andrews, the Brisbane defenders struggled to match the Giants’ tall-forwards for the rest of the game. Jeremy Cameron and Jonathon Patton finished with three goals each.
Hawthorn hosted Gold Coast in Tasmania and, in an ugly scrap, came away with a comprehensive 53 point win.
Hawthorn’s inaccurate goal kicking wasn’t costly in the end, as they held Gold Coast goalless in the second and third terms.
The Giants will be without Jeremy Cameron after the tribunal charged him for an intentional strike on Harris Andrews. He will sit on the sidelines for five weeks.
Ruckman Rory Lobb comes in to replace Cameron, returning from a rib injury suffered in a big hit against Gold Coast in round 12.
For Hawthorn, Jonathon Ceglar replaces the injured Shaun Burgoyne.
Burgoyne will miss four weeks with a hamstring injury, which saw him relegated to the bench and iced up in the final term last Saturday.
It’s difficult to split these two teams at this point in the season; they sit ninth (Hawthorn) and tenth (GWS) on the ladder and in their last meeting (round 16, 2017) they drew 97-all at University of Tasmania Stadium.
Prediction
It’s going to be a tight one,three-games on a three game winning streak.
At home, GWS have just the small advantage they need to take home a win and overtake the Hawks on the ladder.
