I don’t think one round has ever made ranking these eighteen teams agonisingly harder than this one. What a round, though, amirite?

1.Richmond
Last week: 1

Another win, another week at top of the ladder. They’re pretty much the straight A student who’d remind the teacher that homework existed. Great to copy off, just a little annoying when they win all the prizes and cosy up to the teacher.

2.Sydney Swans
Last week: 2

Well, they lost. If Richmond’s the straight-A student, Sydney is the kid who has an avocado on toast breakfast each morning – they’re usually reliable, very rich, have a dark history with the bank (it’s expensive living on the coast!) and occasionally get a little nervous when they’re with the smart kids from interstate.

3.Port Adelaide
Last week: 4

Was I the only one not surprised in the slightest that this is a team that was pushed by the Blues? Regardless, the did what needed to be done. Just much more uncomfortably than they expected.

4.Collingwood
Last week: 5

In a weekend full of excellent wins, this was… a win. But, hey presto – they’re top two! That isn’t something I expected to be saying this year. At all.

5.West Coast
Last week: 3

Uh oh. No Kennedy? No Darling? No LeCras? No win, apparently. No panic stations at all yet, but face a tricky clash against a resurgent GWS next week.

6.GWS Giants
Last week: 10

Four straight wins. They’re primed and getting ready to pounce on whoever slips up next. Good chance to beat the Eagles, too, you’d think.

7.Essendon
Last week: 11

Great winners in a great game. I’ll happily applaud them for that.

8.Geelong
Last week: 6

Eeeeeek. Don’t blame Harry Taylor, though. Blame whatever it is that makes this squad incapable of winning after the bye.

9.Hawthorn
Last week: 8

I genuinely don’t have much to say here. I’ll just compliment on Mitchell accumulating 50+ disposals for the third time. Nobody’s done that before.

10.Melbourne
Last week: 7

Oops, they did it again.

11.North Melbourne
Last week: 9

If it’s any consolation, they lost in what was the best game of the weekend.

12.Adelaide
Last week: 13

In a weekend full of excellent wins, this was the excellent win. Potentially resurrected their season in one quarter. And to think I rejected a ticket to this game to go to a 21st. Dunno what would’ve been better to see.

13.Western Bulldogs
Last week: 14

Breathtakingly nervy win. Redemption for last week, though.

14.Brisbane Lions
Last week: 15

Very, very good. It’s almost a necessity to back it up next week though. The fact than both them and the Blues will be desperate for the win might provide us with a close-run encounter.

15.St Kilda
Last week: 16

Legitimately sensational win. They couldn’t possibly make it three on the trot against the Power in Adelaide next Saturday though. Right?

16.Fremantle
Last week: 12

4:30pm – Freo lose Sandilands. 5:30pm – Freo lose Fyfe. 7:15pm – Freo officially lose the game. 7:30pm – I lose my good mood at work, learning about the aforementioned. Horrible loss.

17.Carlton
Last week: 17

Well, they were very good for many stages of the clash – just couldn’t close it out. I have a strange excitement for their clash against the Lions next week.

18.Gold Coast
Last week: 18

Another loss. Won a final quarter, in a rare bit of good news, I suppose.
