There are two programs in Australia for Monday, with eight races at Gunnedah, while a bumper ten-race program has been set down for Wangaratta. Here are my suggested bets across the two programs.

Bet 1: Win – Gunnedah Race 3, number one: Fort Jackson
He should be beating this lot. Stephen Jones trains this galloper, who carved over from the wide gate to lead last time out at Muswellbrook and gave a decent kick but was no match for the Snowden galloper Helaku. There’s no horse of that class here, and if he reproduces the last run, he should prove too good for this lot.

Bet 2: Each-way – Gunnedah Race 4, number eight: Collins Street
I think he’s really good overs here. Mark Hatch has this gelding going really well at the moment, with a couple of ripping efforts at Tamworth with big weights, the latest over 1400 metres when just failing to reach Smart Attire. Up to the mile he looks ideal, and with serious weight relief and senior jock on I can definitely entertain each-way at $8.50.

Bet 3: Win – Gunnedah Race 5, number one: It’s Relative
On the surface even money or thereabouts is short enough for this bloke given he has won only the one race from 11 starts, but considering this field is pretty much full of camels, he should be winning. He ran over 1450 metres at Quirindi last time out where he got back to last before saving ground, cutting through and looming large but was pipped late. Has run well at this track and distance before and looks the one.

Bet 4: Win – Wangaratta Race 4, number five: Shoplifter
He just needs to produce his recent outings from the synthetic to the turf and he’ll just about be winning. He ran on strongly first behind Sacred Sister before being off the map last time and not having much luck in the straight when appearing to be going well. Up to 1170 metres he looks ideal, and with good draw can he run up to his recent efforts on the synthetic? I think so.

Bet 5: Win – Wangaratta Race 5, number 13: Pure Colour
She’s been a model of consistency but is just struggling to greet the judge. In saying that, I think she’ll take some beating here. She ran over the 1450 metres at Edenhope last time out and I thought Puls gave her every chance, but she just missed out in a close finish. She should do no work from the inside gate and Billy Egan takes the ride.
