There’s some good racing across Australia on Wednesday, with some nice races set down for Canterbury being the highlight. Here are my suggested bets across the afternoon.

Bet 1: Each-way – Canterbury Race 3, number two: Excelamour
I think she’s a solid each-way gamble in a tricky race. She ran over 1400 metres at Newcastle last time out where she didn’t get the greatest of luck in the straight and probably should have finished closer when midfield behind Moondancer. I like her back to 1250 metres and she should get a lovely sit just off a hot speed.

Each-way odds: $9/$2.7 (Crownbet)

Bet 2: Each-way – Canterbury Race 4, number one: Imanui
Why is he $7? His best surely puts this lot away. He resumed in a pretty strong race at Rosehill, and while he never looked likely, he made up ground late behind Manolo Blahniq. This race looks considerably weaker, he goes well second up, he has class on these, he draws well – I think he should nearly be favourite.

Each-way odds: $7/$2.3 (Crownbet)

Bet 3: Win – Canterbury Race 5, number five: Empress Matilda
I’m happy to be with this girl. She resumed in what looked a strong race at Kensington where she had good late market support but just ran out of puff late when a close fourth to Alassio. This race does look much thinner depth-wise and she should be able to get the run of the race from the draw. Odds of $4.6 are more than acceptable.

Win odds: $4.6 (Crownbet)

Bet 4: Win – Sandown Race 5, number five: Naantali
I’ve got a huge opinion of this girl but it was dented a touch after an inglorious start to the prep. But the punters were all over her last time out back in grade at Geelong and she bolted in, getting her confidence back up to tackle city grade. She’s got blacktype ability, and if she runs up to that thought, she should be winning this.

Win odds: $3.2 (Sportsbet)

Bet 5: Win – Ipswich Race 4, number one: Without Revenge
If he runs up to his two career outings, he should be taking care of this lot. He placed in both career outings, with the debut being over the 1350 metres here. He then went to the Toowoomba mile and I thought Jim Byrne rode a pretty negative race from the 700m to 400m, and that’s when Go Dixie was off and gone. Gallagher is riding really well at the moment, and with his three-kilogram claim I think $2.3-plus is fine.

Win odds: $2.3 (Neds)
