Daria Gavrilova and Samantha Stosur meet in a battle of the Aussies for a place in the third round of the Championships. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 8:30pm (AEST).

After a successful couple of days at Wimbledon, Australia will see one of its better players tumble out of the event, as two Aussies fight it out on court 18.

Daria Gavrilova continues to improve and enters the tournament as the number 18 seed. It has been a steady climb for the diminutive Aussie. What she lacks in power, she more than makes up for with spirit and competitiveness in the contest.

If she is able to combat some of the mental fragilities that have plagued her so far in her career, she could become a consistent member of the top ten.

Samantha Stosur is certainly not the player she once was and Wimbledon has never been a happy hunting ground for the Queenslander having never moved past the third round.

After something of a struggle in her first round match, the thirty-four-year-old will need to improve against her compatriot, who navigated through her first round much more easily and looked in good touch.

Prediction
In something of a changing of the guard period for women’s tennis in Australia and with opportunities for Stosur to make another run at a Grand Slam title coming to an end, Gavrilova will need to be sharp to win tonight.

For Stosur, experience and first serve percentage will be the keys in this match. Gavrilova has the power to match the elder stateswoman and should be too good. Controlling her firebrand tendencies and maintaining a level emotional state will be required if she is to claim the victory.
