Australian Asheigh Barty faces Russian Daria Kasatkina in the round of thirty two at Wimbledon. Join The Roar for live scores from 8:30pm (AEST).

It has been a wonderful week for the Australians at Wimbledon so far and now as the field thins, the matches become more and more challenging. Such is the case for Ashleigh Barty in this match on court 3.

Both players are seeded, Barty at 17 and Kasatkina three places higher and those numbers reflect the potential closeness of a match that could go deep into a third set if both players bring their best.

The Australian is enjoying a wonderful season and comes into the third round after two tight victories over quality opponents, in the form of Stefanie Voegele and Eugenie Bouchard.

The Russian worked hard in the first round yet was a convincing winner against a very promising Yulia Putintseva in the second.

Head to head raises an interesting statistic, as this will be the first time they have met; something a little surprising for two well accomplished and highly ranked players.

As London continues to bask in excellent weather and the courts dry speedily, the ball is starting to bounce a little more and the conditions will suit those players with the bigger weapons off the ground.

That probably helps Kasatkina a little yet Barty will benefit from the extra speed off the court from her serve and with her superior net play, will be looking to use the quicker conditions to her advantage as well.

Prediction
If this match becomes a slug fest from the back of the court, Barty might not have the weapons to match the Russian.

If able to use variation and take net position frequently, she may be able to craft a match played on her terms and ask some serious question of the young Russian.
