There’s quality racing right across the board on Sunday, with the main focus being at Grafton and Warrnambool for some feature racing. Here are my five plays for the afternoon.

Bet 1: Win – Grafton Race 1, number two: Dia Vernon
Pretty confident this bloke goes close. Ran over 1100 metres at Scone last time where he sat on a pretty decent speed, and though quickly beaten, he stuck on okay behind Albert’s No Pussy, and the form out of the race has been franked via Belle Of Portugal. Blinkers FT to sharpen him up and McGuren rides Grafton better than most.

Win odds: $4.40 (Sportsbet)

Bet 1: Each-way – Grafton Race 7, number ten: Camayoc
Got a horrendous racing pattern, but Sally Taylor has him going really well at the moment. I’m prepared to forgive the last start at Tamworth because the speed was hot but he was out of his comfort zone and nearer the inside wasn’t the spot to be. He tends to save his best for Grafton, and though the speed map says he’ll face a huge task, I reckon he’s worth something each way.

Win odds: $10; place odds: $15 (Tote)

Bet 3: Win – Nowra Race 5, number seven: Colonel Panaga
A Nowra bog – usually deal me out, but I think this hulk of a horse is the good thing of the day. Ran over the 900 metres at Moruya last Friday and his effort was very good. He’s got the frame of a stayer, so the 900 metres was clearly short of his best, but he finished off really nicely behind Denesc. Yes, 1100 metres; yes, home track; and he’ll be strong late compared to Secret Diamond, who has to be a risk of the trip on a very testing track.

Win odds: $3.80 (Sportsbet)

Bet 4: Each-way – Warrnambool Race 6, number 13: Chu Chu Charlie
Last time he won Moses was parting the sea, but he has since strung together a couple of really sharp wins on the bounce, the latest coming last Sunday at Naracoorte where he bolted in after sitting on speed and dashing clear on the turn. Martin Kelly has been one of the standout high-weight riders this season and I think this horse can only run well.

Each-way odds: $6/$2.25 (Crownbet)

Bet 5: Win – Warrnambool Race 8, number four: Self Sense
I reckon Kothu Rotti could challenge, but for now Self Sense is the best hurdler in Australia. The Australian Hurdle win two back was arrogant before racing on the flat over 2040 metres at the Valley and he did a great job to run second to My Nordic Hero. There is a question mark on most of these, but there are none with him. Just wins for mine.

Win odds: $1.70 (Crownbet)
