It was the second day of the Gfinity Elite Series playoffs on Sunday. Rocket League and Street Fighter V took to the stage as found our remaining grand finalists for next week.

Rocket League started off with the Sydney Chiefs looking to continue their dream run through the competition against Melbourne Avant.

If you watched the first two rounds, however, you could be forgiven for thinking it was Avant who were the ladder leaders. The Melbourne side played with poise and skill unseen throughout much of the regular season, going 2-0 in the best-of-seven before surviving a late rally from the Chiefs and claiming a shock 4-2 win in easily the biggest upset of the season..

A huge grudge match between Perth Ground Zero and Melbourne Order followed, and the fans definitely got their money’s worth.

Order were able to avenge their loss to Perth in the regular season however, with an early 2-0 deficit too much for Ground Zero to overcome. The Melbourne side took out the series 4-2 to set up a mouth-watering Melbourne derby next week to decide the title.

After a lengthy break we turned our attention to Street Fighter, where it was the draftee-led Melbourne Avant looking to continue their Cinderella story against Perth Ground Zero, the team they beat in Week 1.

Unfortunately for the favourites Avant, they were involved in their second shock result of the day.

The teams traded rounds in a thrilling encounter and – as is seemingly bound by law in matches involving Avant – it went to a decisive seventh round, but it was Ground Zero who were able to pull it off and advance to the final.

The day then finished with a clash between traditional rivals in the Sydney Chiefs and Melbourne Order.

Keen to rebound from a shock exit in the Rocket League semis, the Chiefs weren’t able to get the job done, faltering in the final seventh round to lose 4-3.

The grand finals for next week are all set, and it’ll be Melbourne Order fans licking their lips at the chance to claim all three titles in Season 1 for 2018.
