World No.1 Roger Federer will face his toughest challenge at Wimbledon so far when he takes on Kevin Anderson in the quarter-finals. Join The Roar for live scores from 10pm (AEST).

Federer will be right up against it in this match. While he has never lost a set to Anderson in their four previous encounters (none of them at grand slam or five-set level) he hasn’t played the big-serving South African for three years.

That could pose a problem, because as it stands, Anderson is one of the biggest servers on tour.

The last man to beat Federer at Wimbledon was a fit and firing Canadian by the name of Milos Raonic. He, like Anderson, has a huge serve – possibly the biggest on tour. While that’s not a knock on Federer and his ability to handle heavy serving, it does open up the potential of a problem here.

Federer is yet to drop a set on the grass courts of the All England Club this year. He did the same thing last year and looks in similar form after performing a dissection of Andrian Mannarino in the fourth round, winning the first set 6-0 before cruising to the finish line.

While Federer has played what has been put in front of him comfortably, he hasn’t yet faced a player of the stature of Anderson, who, on the other hand, has had a pretty difficult run through the tournament.

Anderson was pushed to four sets by both Andreas Seppi and Gael Monfils, but there is no shame in that. The other two straight-set wins, to go with comfortable enough wins in the other two matches leave him in a good way ahead of this match against the greatest grass court player the world has ever seen.

Prediction
Federer hasn’t played Anderson for a number of years, so previous results can be tossed out the window. He should still win, but there will be definitely some tough moments here.
