Billy Slater’s final ever State of Origin appearance has started wildly, with the star fullback copping a shoulder charge from Latrell Mitchell and having a try denied by the bunker inside the first four minutes.

Slater got a spine-tingling reception from the Queensland faithful when he ran out onto Suncorp Stadium for the final time as a member of the Maroons, but found himself a little worse for wear after Mitchell got him with a shoulder charge on his first touch of the game.
Queensland were awarded a penalty and, on the ensuing possession, were able to get a high kick to the try line were Slater appeared to take a ripping grap and cross for the first score of the game.
But the video replay showed a slight knock-in in mid-air and the try was disallowed.
