The Adelaide Crows host the Geelong Cats at the Adelaide Oval with both teams desperately requiring a win. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7:50pm (AEST).
The Crows have one final chance to stake a claim for a spot in the top eight come season’s end and this is it.
With three losses from their last four and a season that has gone from disrupted to disastrous, Adelaide cannot afford to slip three wins away from the top eight – which seems likely considering the match-ups thrown up this weekend.
Last week’s loss to Richmond confirmed where the Crows are at, despite an impressive win against the Eagles a week earlier. The return of Eddie Betts is a big inclusion for the home side.
Geelong are walking a tightrope at the moment. They border somewhere between real top-four contenders and also-rans who could still miss the finals, depending upon to whom you speak. Last week’s win against Sydney was a shot in the arm for Chris Scott’s men and they welcome back Daniel Menzel to the team for this clash.
While the Cats could potentially afford a loss or two on the way home, the reality is that they will still have top-four aspirations and currently sit two wins from that position. If they are to get there, this is a must-win game and one that could even see them tumble out of the eight come the end of the weekend if other results go against them.
Prediction
There is a lot on the line for Geelong and, despite being on the road in a hostile environment, their excellent defensive capabilities should enable them to grapple their way past the Crows in a low-scoring encounter.
Geelong by three goals.
