Julia Goerges will look to keep her best grand slam performance to date alive when she takes on the fairytale story that is Serena Williams in the Wimbledon semi-finals. Join The Roar for live scores from around 11:30pm (AEST).

Before this run through Wimbledon, Goerges, despite attaining a career-high ranking of ten earlier this year, had never been past the fourth round of a grand slam.

It’s crazy to think her tournament so nearly came to an end in the third round when she was pushed to 10-8 in the third round by Barbora Strycova, but she has bounced back from that strongly and has barely looked challenged again.

The quarter-final saw the seeded German take on Kiki Bertens. In what should have been a tough contest against another solid server, she dropped the first set, but then fired back to win the final two 7-5, 6-1. Being able to come back from a set down is always the mark of a calm and composed player, which she will need every little bit of to get the better of Williams.

Williams, who is one of the greatest players in the history of tennis was seeded 25th for Wimbledon.

She won her first four matches in easy fashion, not dropping a set. While there were no big names in her path, it continues to strengthen her return to tennis.

The quarter-final saw her get the better of Camila Giorgi in three sets, and while the match did push her and her fitness which may be an issue, this match is more likely to have plenty of short points, which should allow Williams to gain the ascendency.

Prediction
The run of Goerges has been impressive to watch, but it should come to an end here as Williams skips away with a victory. This won’t be as easy as the rest she has had so far though.
